BROOMBALL – What is it?
Broomball is similar to ice hockey in team play and some of the rules. One major difference is it enables everyone to enjoy the sport and you do not need skates! All you need are tennis shoes. Using broomball sticks you attempt to score more goals than your opponent by hitting the ball into their net. Broomball can be played with a group of any size from 6 - 24 and teams can be comprised in any configuration you desire.
Broomball is great fun for clubs, schools, church groups, organizations and businesses. Broomball is a great way to build your groups morale and boost teamwork in a fun atmosphere. Ice skating skills are not required – anybody can play!
BROOMBALL – Is it a contact sport?
Broomball is not a contact sport which is why it is so attractive for organized groups of all ages. Broomball is played on a snowy ice covered surface, players wear helmets and per the rules of the game, carry paddles (brooms) below waist level making a sweeping motion in an attempt to make contact with the ball. The ball is not meant to leave the ice surface.
BROOMBALL – What should I wear?
Union Arena supplies on-ice game needs such as helmets, brooms, balls and nets for up to 24 players. You may choose to wear knee pads, elbow pads for additional protection as well as warm clothing that is easy to remove once you warm up. You may also want to wear winter gloves. Wear only tennis shoes, sneakers or other rubber soled shoes with good grip.
BROOMBALL – What is the cost?
Most groups rent either 1 hour or 1.5 hours of ice for broomball. Call Union Arena for a price quote for your next event @ (802) 457-2500.
Additionally, waivers must be signed for all broomball players before stepping onto the ice.
